Etsy Fee Calculator (UK)

Etsy stacks a transaction fee, a payment processing fee and a listing fee on every sale — and the 6.5% is charged on shipping too, not just the item price. Offsite Ads can add another 15% on top when a buyer arrives from an off-site ad.

Break-even price: £10.52 — below this you lose money on every sale.

On the example above, Etsy takes 11.4% of every sale. That is the number to compare, not the headline percentage — the fixed fees and the shipping-inclusive fee base are what make the effective rate diverge from the advertised one.

The full fee schedule

Every charge Etsy applies to a United Kingdom order, and when each one bites.

FeeAmountWhen it applies
Listing fee £0.15 / item Per item listed, in GBP.
Transaction fee 6.5% 6.5% of the item price plus shipping charged.
Payment processing 4.0% + £0.20 4% + £0.20 per order in the UK.
Offsite Ads optional 15.0% 15% while the shop has made under $10,000 in the prior 365 days (you may opt out). Once the shop crosses $10,000 it becomes 12% and participation is mandatory.

How the maths works

The calculator does exactly three things: it builds the fee base, applies every active fee, then subtracts your costs. No hidden steps.

# forward — what you keep revenue = (price + shipping charged) × units fees = revenue × 10.50% + £0.35 × units net = revenue − fees − item cost − shipping cost − fixed costs # reverse — what you should charge price = (target + costs + fixed) ÷ (1 − 10.50%) − shipping charged

Optional fees such as Offsite Ads are excluded from those percentages until you switch them on, because they only apply to a share of orders. When enabled, they simply add to the rate.

What this calculator leaves out

Common questions

Does Etsy charge a fee on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the item price plus whatever shipping you charge the buyer. That is why raising the item price and offering 'free shipping' is often cheaper than charging shipping separately — you still pay the percentage either way, but you do not pay it twice on a higher combined total.

What is Offsite Ads and can I turn it off?

Offsite Ads is Etsy's programme that promotes your listings on external sites. When a sale is attributed to one of those ads, Etsy takes 15% of the order. Sellers under the annual sales threshold can opt out; above it, participation is mandatory. Flip the Offsite Ads switch in the calculator to see the impact.

Why is my actual payout lower than this calculator?

Three common reasons: sales tax that Etsy collects and remits (it is revenue on the order but never yours), currency conversion fees if your bank account is in a different currency, and Etsy Plus or other subscriptions. The first two are excluded here by design.

Keep going

If the number above is worse than you expected, the fix is usually one of two things: raise the price, or move the shipping into the item price. Our reverse pricing calculator tells you the price that hits your target; the fee base guide explains why shipping is charged twice.
